Blogging From Nashville

Posted in computers, family at 12:35 pm by Mrs C.

This week I decided to head to Nashville, Tennessee to visit my oldest daughter and her family. Today is shorts weather and we are heading out to the garden. To me, this is the perfect time of year - not too hot and not too cold. And the great thing about the Internet is that I can still check my email every day and get all the jokes that the members of the seniors’ computer club love to send me.

Killing Time

Posted in life in Canada, family at 8:54 pm by Mrs C.

There used to be a day when there were more things to do than hours to do them. Then somehow the kids grew up and left home. Now, here we are at not even 9 pm and I sit on the couch bored and unmotivated, while my husband stares at the ceiling wondering what to do with himself.

We have not settled into retirement very well, even with hobbies and church activities to help fill our time. We miss having the kids around, although when they were, we were too busy to really enjoy them. Life is funny like that - one minute you are in the fast lane and the next, you are not even in the race anymore. And the sad thing is that you were so busy running that you missed all of the enjoyment on the way. Is it any wonder that grandparents spoil their grandkids so much - we get another chance at life.

on a mold mission

Posted in life in Canada, health at 1:37 am by Mrs C.

Hard to believe it has been almost a month since I last posted. When I was in Sudbury, I felt so healthy and even though it was cold, I went for long walks almost every day. Since it was not a damp cold like Toronto is, the weather did not seem bad at all.

Anyway, ever since I got back home, I have not felt very well. I seem to have problems breathing, a sore throat and a constant dry cough. To make matters worse, my husband had varnished our hardwood floors while I was away, so that smell took a long time to get out of the house. The doctor sent me for a chest x-ray, which was fine, and thinks my problem is likely allergy related.

I read an article on the Internet about the effects of black mold and wondered if that was half my problem. We had a small amount on our bathroom ceiling, but after cleaning it, I started acting like a mad woman and checking every corner of the house. Turns out there was mold behind a dresser in my bedroom and some under the basement carpet and in the cold cellar.

Even my large plant, which I really like, seems to have yellow fungus on the soil. I hate to throw it out, so will first try to change the soil and see what happens.
