Trusting the GPS

Posted on by

city streetAfter years of getting lost every time we visited a new city, we finally bought a GPS. For those of you who’ve used one for years, you’re wondering what the big deal is, but it is a big deal to give up your choice and trust someone or something else.

We still managed to get a bit lost the closer we got to our destination, but every time Lady GPS was there to guide us out and get us on our way again. By the time we got to Charlotte, we were beginning to trust her.

But on the way home, for the first hour or so, Lady GPS took us on side roads and through small towns instead of on the main highway. The view was much prettier and we should have relaxed and enjoyed the scenery, but instead we started to stress that we were lost. It wasn’t until we connected to the main highway that we began to trust our little Lady again. She brought us safely home, with no loss of time. If only we’d trusted what we paid for, instead of worrying because we couldn’t see the end of the journey.

How often are we like that in life? We ask for guidance, pray for it, even pay for it, but when the direction doesn’t seem to fit our ideas, we begin to worry. Then we either stop entirely and try to find our own way instead, or lose the enjoyment of the journey because it’s taking us outside of our comfort zone.

What if we learned to trust our internal GPS and were willing to take a different route than we would have chosen on our own? How much joy are we missing out on when we refuse to take a risk?

Learning to live in the moment,
Carol

My Podcast Experience So Far

Posted on by

online radio microphoneFor the past two years, I’ve wanted to start a podcast. But the process seemed way too intimidating. I took three different podcast courses and still was intimidated. Finally I decided enough was enough and at the beginning of 2017 I started my podcast – Purpose For Your Life. And guess what – I love doing it!

I decided to work with what I could do instead of waiting until the podcast was perfect. That means even though most podcasts have intro and outro music or a professional introduction, mine doesn’t. But something is better than nothing. I can’t use most of the capability of the Audacity program, but I’ve learned it well enough to do minor audio editing. Getting the podcast out became more important than whether I’ve repeated the word ‘so’ three times or not. In the future I’ll probably make the podcast more professional, for now I’m satisfied that every week my message is getting out there.

I did pay to have my audio files on the Libsyn platform, but for only $5 they not only host the files, they also send my podcast to iTunes every time I record a new episode. If you have a WordPress website, Libsyn even has a plugin that adds the recording to your site as well. That came in really handy when I was travelling for two weeks. I was able to schedule my podcast episodes to go out two separate Mondays, just as though I was at home. Bet you couldn’t even tell I was away, could you?

Have you got things you’ve always wanted to do but the excuses keep you from achieving your goal? Why not forget about getting it perfect and focus on getting it done? People need what you know, don’t hold back and let them down.

Start sharing your story,
Carol

New Year, New Direction

Posted on by

I know, this is April – the new year started over three months ago. But I’m a slow climber, not like the little girl in this picture. As you’ve noticed from my blog posts this past while, I’ve been unsure where to plant my feet as I make this climb called ‘life’.

I have come to some conclusions though. I’ve decided to divide my website into two areas – one for motivation and purpose, the other for the help and training needed to take that purpose and give it breath online. Think of it as the two sides of a coin, one the inspirational and the other the practical.

Since dividing the site means moving a number of my old blog posts to their new room under the banner of Sharing Your Story (which you’ll find up there with the other page titles) and since I’ve been blogging for many years, it’s going to take time. A lot of time. Once I’m done, all the posts related to business, social media, product/course creation, and online marketing will be in the new area. That way, those of you who are ready to share your experiences and expertise with the world will have an easier path to do so.

The content on this part of the site is designed to stir up the longing in you to be all you were meant to be. As such, my posts here will often speak to that desire in us to live lives that matter. I hope you’ll continue with me on the journey.

Here’s to living life to the fullest,
Carol

Slowly Finding My Way

Posted on by 0 comment

roadFirst of all, thank you to those of you who took the time to email me your thoughts re my struggling to find myself. Is there such a thing as a late-life crisis? If there is, I’m right in the middle of it. I’m in the fall of my life, on a road to who knows where.

Here I was this morning, thinking I don’t care about any of my stuff and all I want is to find my purpose. And then this afternoon my coffee had no cream or sugar (doctor’s orders). All of a sudden I sure cared about ‘stuff’ again. I’m beginning to think that simplifying my life isn’t going to be as easy as it sounds.

I am making progress though. My husband and I have cancelled cable tv in favor of Internet TV, opted for an Internet home phone, and switched to a small local Internet provider. Now if we feel the need to watch a program, ‘I Love Lucy’ is a click away. Plus no commercials – that’s my hubby’s favourite part. Since we volunteer as well, we don’t have a lot of time to spare anyway.

As for business, I’ve decided to wait until September to start any kind of membership program. Until then, I’m going to concentrate on my weekly podcast, updating and creating new Udemy courses to sell, and start writing a few guides to go with the courses. That should keep me busy over the next five months.

What about you? Are you finding meaning in your day? For me, that often means taking a few minutes to be thankful for what I have and treating other people in a way that gives them reason to be thankful too.

Have a great rest of the week,
Carol

I Need Your Thoughts

Posted on by 0 comment

Here I am with another post wondering how I should be spending my time and energy. Sorry if you’re getting tired of hearing about it, but life is getting too short to waste time doing things that don’t matter to other people or to me. We’ve all been given specific strengths and I don’t want to be wasting my time trying to do things I’m not meant to and aren’t helpful to others. Continue reading
